The story of Manabu Tokugawa is quite different from the rest of the Yakuza. Manabu was not born into a crime family, nor did he encounter any violence or hardship in his early childhood. Indeed Manabu was born into a family of nobility, a member of the Imperial House of Japan and direct relation, albeit a very distant one, to the Incumbent Emperor of Japan. When Manabu was 12 his mother and father divorced after his mother was caught having an affair with another member of his fathers Polo team. Scandal followed and many payments were offered to Manabu's mother for the story. As a proud and disgraced woman, she refused them all. Manabu, an only child, was cast out alongside his mother, to live far away from the riches they had always known. To Manabu's aunty and mothers sister's house in the country, a small farming community in the mountains. Instead of appreciating the outstanding natural beauty of the area as everyone else did. Manabu despised his mother for the fact that they were now poor, his mind had already been corrupted by the trappings of wealth and the immoral ways of the nobility. He could not bare life as a farmer when he had been brought up like a prince. This filled Manabu's heart with hatred for his mother and all around him who were so happy living like peasants he ended up despising them all. As Manabu started to integrate with the other children and go to the village school, all the other children became fascinated by him and looked up to him. He was nobility after all and he had lived a life they could only dream of. This was the biggest undoing of all for Manabu, for instead of appreciating the love and awe that he was being showered upon him by all the other farmer's children, as any healthy-minded child would. Manabu in his state of hate just turned it all into more poison for his twisted heart. All it did was make him go unchecked and unchallenged, he now looked down on all his peers, his mother and all the other farmers as peasants. Manabu lived this peasants life full of hate for all around him for his next 4 years until he was 16. Then something different came into his life, a young girl also 16 called Maiko. They fell in love with each other and became inseparable true puppy love. This lasted over a year and Maiko completely changed Manubu's perception with her love and indeed his own happiness. They were only a few months away from their 18th birthday's when Manubu became suspicious that Maiko was having an affair with another boy from the village. She was not, they were just friends and their houses across the street from each other. Whilst Manubu's aunties house was on the other side of the village. Manabu kept asking Maiko if she was having an affair, mentally scarred by his own experience of his mother and father. His twisted heart brought all his previous hate flooding back. This constant paranoia and repeatedly asking the same questions of Maiko drove them apart and took Manabu straight back to his dark pit of hatred. As the winter turned to Spring so too did Maiko and Yoshirio's fondness for each other and they did indeed start to become more than friends. The first time Manabu saw Maiko and Yoshiro holding hands he instantly knew why his father had banished his mother. In that instant overcome with rage and hatred, Manabu ran in the opposite direction for at least a mile, fell in a heap on the floor and began to cry. After he cried himself to sleep Manabu woke up and he knew exactly what he was going to do. He was going to kill the entire village, every single one of the peasants was going to die and he knew exactly how he was going to do it. Every new year the entire village held a huge celebration, the new years festival or ''Matsuri'' was the one time everyone in the village forgot how poor they were. The one and only time of the year the entire village ate and drank to excess with each other and all lived for two days like kings and queens. Five percent of the entire village's budget went on the New year's Matsuri, everyone saved equally for it because it came out of the village taxes. It was the only time of the year certain families who had long-standing feuds talked with each other, it was special for all, that was always the sentiment even in those extreme circumstances. Manabu from his place of hatred and paranoia had conjured up a plan so evil and despicable that the devil himself would welcome Manabu through the gates of hell with open arms, that was a given. Spoilt, evil, twisted, paranoid, out of control and driven by hate, Manabu had hatched a plan to go and pick the plant Aconite, a plant that grew in the hills with poisonous properties. Two grams of Aconite root can stop a persons heart within four hours. Manabu had spent the last month going for long walks into the hills and coming back with all his pockets stuffed full with Aconite roots. He had dried it out and ground it all down to dust. He crept out in the middle of the night and slipt it into the ''mochi'' (sweet rice cakes) that everyone eats to celebrate the new year's matsuri and then he waited. The morning of the matsuri everyone woke up with the biggest smiles of the year. Everyone loved these next few days of the matsuri more than the rest of the year put together. The rest of the year was all work and no play after all. Everyone met as usual at 9 am for the main procession through the village, as it came to a close everyone took up their positions with their families, who were now mixing with each other making the chatter inside the marque grow louder and louder. The elders of the village sat at the front and the families all behind. Everyone was now being passed all manner of different drinks from beer and wine, to lemonade. After the soncho (mayor) read out his speech everyone raised their glasses in a toast to happiness and good health. The only one who did not was Manabu, as he sat at the back away from his mother and family. Everyone then continued to chat and drink. Then the ceremonious eating of the mochi took place. Everyone loved mochi, sweet, sticky and yummy, they did not notice this year's supply was laced with poison. Everyone finished eating and the children started to play, all the while Manabu was just watching from his corner. He did not feel any remorse whatsoever, not even for his mother and aunt who had looked after him all these years, not even when he watched his own mother eat one of the mochi sweet rice cakes. Half an hour later the first few children began to vomit, mothers became delirious with worry. Then many of them too began to feel ill. At this point Manabu just left, he knew his work was done. He fled to Tokyo filled with hate and started to rob lowly street dealers at gunpoint to survive. Later he learned from the newspaper that no one died but many were ill for months afterwards. Still, his intention was to kill them all, the evil was done. Manabu carried on robbing street dealers for six months and got very proficient at his new job. He even enjoyed it, how stupid and gullible the dealers were he thought to himself. His favourite part was the stupid look on their faces when a scrawny little runt like him whipped out his pistol and double-tapped them. Then one day he picked the wrong victim, a Yakuza low-level drug peddler. The Yakuza picked Manubu up within a week, then just as they were about to torture him he told them everything. Astonished at what a ruthless and merciless little bastard he must be for wanting to kill his own mother and also knowing of the efficiency that Manabu had been taking street dealers out with. The Yakuza simply said ''we may have a use for you'' and they gave him one chance to swear allegiance to them and earn their respect or they would kill him. The Yakuza gave Manubu the task of clearing non Yakuza drug peddlers from the streets. It was a constant battle, there was always someone stepping into however many shoes they took out, the cycle was a constant. That was until Manabu took his hit squad of just 6 and went around systematically wiping out and eradicating all non Yakuza drug peddlers from the streets of Tokyo. Manabu did not scare them off or kill the odd one. He went around and killed them all, some nights at least seven a night. Knowing how tough the cops where on gun crime, all Manabu's gang now had silencers on their weapons and never left a trace. This was a thing of pride to the fastidious Manabu, he had shot two of his former gang members as the police found a few clues from two different murder scenes. Nothing came of it apart from the death of the two Manabu blamed for the errors. So now Manabu's gang took the bodies and liquidated them in acid in an old garage he had bought for that very purpose. The Yakuza were so shocked at how ruthless and skilled in the art of killing and disposal Manabu had become that they let him keep his original hit squad going for five years. After which the streets had at least 90% less non Yakuza drug peddlers on them as ever before. The Yakuza gave Manabu a job in show business, he had to clear out some new gangs that were trying to muscle in. They were gone within six months, vanished without a trace. Manabu worked his way up to become the most ruthless and merciless of all the Yakuza generals, he is without doubt as despised as he is feared.
